Revelation 1: Jesus Evaluates the Church Age

“I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet, Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia.”

— Revelation 1:10-11 (KJV)

You can listen to my Podcast on this topic here!

Friends, let me tell you what’s been on my heart.

Yesterday, thousands gathered on the National Mall in Washington D.C. for “Rededicate 250″—a prayer rally to rededicate America as “One Nation under God.”

President Trump read 2 Chronicles 7:14: “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

The scene was powerful:

  • 🇺🇸 Thousands in patriotic colors, worship music blaring
  • 🙏 Top Republicans participating: Hegseth, Rubio, Mike Johnson
  • ✝️ Christian focus: “It’s all about Jesus,” attendees declared
  • ⚡ Counter-protests: “Democracy not theocracy,” progressives warned

And here’s the question burning in my spirit: Are we really coming back to God?

Or are we seeing external rededication without internal transformation?

This is exactly why we’re launching into Revelation chapter 1 today. Because before Jesus evaluates the seven churches in chapters 2-3, He shows us how He evaluates.

John was on the island of Patmos. Not a vacation resort. A prison island. An island of constrictions. And I believe that’s exactly how the true believer feels in the closing moments of the church age.

Restricted. Isolated. Watching the world celebrate while you’re exiled for the truth.

But in that place of restriction, Jesus appeared. And He held up a mirror. Not to show John what he wanted to see. But what he needed to see.

Let’s look through that mirror together.

SECTION 1: PATMOS — THE ISLAND OF CONSTRICTIONS

Let’s ground this in Scripture:

“I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.”

— Revelation 1:9 (KJV)

John wasn’t there by choice. He was exiled. Imprisoned. Restricted.

“Companion in tribulation.” That’s the believer’s position in the end times. Not celebrated. Not comfortable. Tribulation.

Why Patmos matters:

  • 🏝️ Isolation — Separated from the world’s celebrations
  • ⛓️ Constriction — Freedom restricted for the sake of the Gospel
  • 👁️ Perspective — Distance reveals truth that proximity hides
  • 🔥 Preparation — In restriction, revelation comes

While thousands gathered on the National Mall yesterday, many true believers felt like they were on Patmos. Watching from a distance. Questioning: Is this genuine revival? Or external form without internal power?

John’s location wasn’t accidental. It was prophetic positioning.

Sometimes God has to remove you from the crowd to show you what the crowd can’t see.

SECTION 2: THE MIRROR — JESUS’S EVALUATION METHOD

When Jesus appeared to John, He didn’t come with praise. He came with a mirror.

“And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.”

— Revelation 1:17-18 (KJV)

John’s response? “I fell at his feet as dead.”

That’s what happens when you see Jesus clearly. You see yourself clearly. And there’s no room for pride, self-congratulation, or external religiosity.

Jesus’s evaluation includes:

  • 👁️ Eyes like fire (v.14) — Nothing hidden, everything exposed
  • ⚔️ Sword from His mouth (v.16) — Word of God judging thoughts and intentions
  • 👣 Feet like fine brass (v.15) — Judgment refined, purified
  • 🌟 Seven stars in His hand (v.16) — Authority over church leaders
  • 🔔 Voice like many waters (v.15) — Overwhelming, undeniable truth

This isn’t the gentle Jesus of modern Christianity. This is the glorified Christ. The evaluating Christ. The Christ who sees through external rallies to the internal condition.

He’s holding a mirror to the church age. And what does He see?

Not just the prayer rally. Not just the patriotic fervor. But the spiritual condition behind it all.

SECTION 3: THE SEVEN CHURCHES — 2000 YEARS OF CHURCH HISTORY

Here’s what most people miss: The seven churches aren’t just seven congregations in Asia Minor.

They’re a prophetic timeline of the entire church age. From Pentecost to the Rapture. 2000 years of church history.

ChurchMeaningTime Period
EphesusLoveless orthodoxyA.D. 30-100 (Apostolic)
SmyrnaPersecuted churchA.D. 100-312 (Roman persecution)
PergamosCompromised churchA.D. 312-590 (State church)
ThyatiraCorrupt churchA.D. 590-1517 (Medieval/Roman Catholic)
SardisDead churchA.D. 1517-1750 (Reformation/dead orthodoxy)
PhiladelphiaFaithful churchA.D. 1750-1900 (Missionary revival)
LaodiceaLukewarm churchA.D. 1900-Rapture (End times apostasy)

We’re living in the Laodicean age. The final church. The lukewarm church. The church that says, “I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing”—but Jesus says, “You are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked” (Revelation 3:17).

External prosperity. Internal poverty.

That’s the mirror Jesus is holding up to America today. Thousands gathering for prayer rallies. Politicians quoting Scripture. Patriotic fervor at an all-time high.

But what does He see in the spirit?

SECTION 4: YOUR 5-MINUTE ACTIVATION — SEE THROUGH HIS MIRROR

Here’s your activation exercise. Based on Revelation 1:9-20. Designed to help you see through Jesus’s eyes, not the world’s.

⚡ 5-MINUTE ACTIVATION: SEE THROUGH HIS MIRROR

“I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day…” — Revelation 1:10

Step 1: CHOOSE Your Revelation Verse (30 seconds)

Pick ONE verse to anchor your discernment:

  • 📖 Revelation 1:17-18 — “Fear not; I am the first and the last”
  • 📖 Revelation 3:17-18 — “You are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked”
  • 📖 Revelation 3:20 — “Behold, I stand at the door and knock”
  • ✨ Or your own: __________

Write it down. Keep it visible.

Step 2: SPEAK It Aloud 3x (30 seconds)

Read it OUT LOUD. Declare His perspective over yours.

Why? Speaking activates faith + rewires your mind for divine evaluation.

Step 3: PONDER Two Questions (60 seconds)

  1. “What external ‘rededication’ am I trusting instead of internal transformation?” (Rallies, traditions, patriotism, religious activity)
  2. “What is Jesus seeing in my heart that I’m refusing to see?”

Be honest. Wisdom meets you in truth.

Step 4: PRAY It Back (60 seconds)

“Lord, show me what You see. Strip away external religiosity. Reveal my true condition. I don’t want to be lukewarm. I don’t want to be blind to my blindness. Transform me from the inside out. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Step 5: TAKE ONE ACTION (60 seconds)

  • ✅ Confess one area of spiritual complacency to a trusted believer
  • ✅ Spend 15 minutes in silent prayer, asking Jesus to reveal your true condition
  • ✅ Share this article with one person who needs this warning
  • ✅ Memorize Revelation 3:17-18 this week

Physical action reinforces spiritual discernment.

⏱️ TOTAL TIME: 5 MINUTES

Do this daily. Watch your discernment sharpen. Watch your heart soften. Watch Jesus transform you.

🕊️ A UNIQUE INVITATION: From Lukewarm to On Fire

This isn’t about rededicating America. This is about being born again.

“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”

— Revelation 3:20 (KJV)

The wisest decision you’ll ever make… is the simplest.

Here’s the path from lukewarm to on fire. RIGHT NOW:

✅ A — ACKNOWLEDGE Your True Condition

External religion won’t save you. Prayer rallies won’t save you. Patriotism won’t save you. Acknowledge your spiritual poverty. You’re wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked without Christ.

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23)

✅ B — BELIEVE Jesus Died for Your Sins

He’s not just a good teacher. He’s the resurrected Lord. He died for your sins. He rose again. He’s knocking at the door of your heart. Believe it. Receive it.

“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” (Romans 10:9)

✅ C — COMMIT to Internal Transformation

Commit to letting Jesus transform you from the inside out. Not external rededication. Internal regeneration. Open the door. Let Him in. Let Him change you.

“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” (2 Corinthians 5:17)

👉 Pray this from your heart. Right where you are:

“Lord Jesus, I acknowledge my true condition. I believe You died for my sins and rose again. I commit to internal transformation. I open the door of my heart. Come in. Transform me. Make me Yours. Today and forever. Amen.”

💙 If you prayed that. Congratulations.
You didn’t achieve it. You received it.
You’re SEALED. (Ephesians 1:13)

🔥 FINAL WORD: WATCH. EVALUATE. REPENT.

Don’t settle for external rededication. Don’t trust in patriotic rallies. Seek internal transformation.

👁️ See through His mirror.

🔥 Be zealous and repent.

Open the door to Jesus.

Behold, I stand at the door and knock.

“Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.”

— Amos 3:7 (KJV)

Maranatha.

The King is coming. And we’ll watch until He does. 🙏
