Church family, I’ve lost someone. I see those words on social media countless times, and the reactions are overwhelming. Most people are sympathetic, but I know the crushing weight behind those three words because I’ve lived it.
I lost both of my parents. My dad only lasted a couple of months after his diagnosis, and my mom followed three years later. They both died at 77 years old. I thought I would have them around longer, but God had other plans. I certainly tried my best, but I came up short. And in those moments of loss, I felt the crushing weight that so many of you are feeling right now.
THE CRUSHING WEIGHT OF LOSS
When grief hits, we sometimes react irrationally. We hold the pain in. We question God. We wonder why. We replay every moment, every word, every missed opportunity. And sometimes we regretfully push people away when we need them most.
But here is what you need to know right now: God is closest to the brokenhearted. Psalm 34:18 says, “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Not far away. Not indifferent. Near. Close. Present.
GOD BINDS UP THE BROKENHEARTED
Isaiah 61:1 tells us that God has sent His Spirit “to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and freedom to the prisoners.” He doesn’t just comfort you; He binds up your wounds like a skilled physician.
He is the ultimate healer of wounded spirits. He doesn’t dismiss your pain. He doesn’t tell you to “get over it.” He draws near. He binds. He heals.
WHEN WE DON’T HAVE THE ANSWERS
But I know the questions still come. Why did they have to go? Why now? Why this way? Church family, we don’t have all the answers. But we know this: God knows the end from the beginning.
He sees the complete story while we only see one painful chapter. What looks like tragedy to us may be redemption in His larger plan. What feels like abandonment may actually be His hand guiding your loved one home and drawing you closer to Him in your grief.
WHAT IS YOUR SOUL WORTH?
Ray Comfort, when he’s out witnessing on the streets with his dog wearing sunglasses, asks people a powerful question: “If I gave you one million dollars for one of your eyes, would you do it?” Most say no. He ups the ante: “What if I gave you two million dollars for both eyes?” Every single person declines.
And then Ray points to Jesus’ words in Matthew 16:26: “What does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul?”
Church family, death is the most crushing time, but it’s also the most opportune time to help people find Jesus. Because in those moments, eternity becomes real. The temporary nature of this life becomes undeniable.
THE ETERNAL PERSPECTIVE
And here is what you need to understand about your loved one who has passed: Their soul’s destiny has already been determined. If they knew Jesus, they are with Him right now, free from pain, free from suffering. If they didn’t know Him, that decision was made in life, not in death.
But for those who are alive and remain—those reading this right now—the decision still weighs in the balance. Death has a way of stripping away the illusions of this world and forcing us to face eternity.
That is why this ministry exists. That is why we share the gospel. That is why we equip the saints. Because we don’t want anyone to face eternity unprepared.
THE ABCs OF SALVATION
If you are grieving today, let God bind up your wounds. Let Him draw near to your broken heart. And if you have never surrendered your life to Jesus, if you have never received His forgiveness, there is no better time than now.

- A — ADMIT You’re a Sinner (Romans 3:23)
- B — BELIEVE Jesus Died and Rose (Romans 5:8)
- C — CONFESS Him as Lord (Romans 10:9)
Pray this from your heart: “Lord Jesus, I admit I’m a sinner. I believe You died for me and rose again. I confess You as my Lord and Savior. Write my name in the Lamb’s Book of Life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
5-MINUTE ACTIVATION: LETTING GOD HEAL YOUR GRIEF
Take 5 minutes today to let God draw near to your broken heart and bind up your wounds.
Step 1: READ Psalm 34:18 & Isaiah 61:1 (60 sec)
Read these verses aloud. Declare: “The Lord is near to my broken heart. He is binding up my wounds.”
Step 2: PRAY the Healing Prayer (90 sec)
“Lord, I bring my grief to You. I feel the crushing weight of loss. Draw near to my broken heart. Bind up my wounds. Help me to trust that You know the end from the beginning. And if I have never surrendered my life to You, I do so now. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
Step 3: ACT (60 sec)
Write down one name of someone you need to share the gospel with—someone who needs to be ready for eternity. Pray for them right now.
