Friends and family of Divine Timing, in our last study, we witnessed the terrifying reality of Revelation 16. Babylon—the great city—endured the most massive earthquake in human history. The cup of the wine of the fierceness of His wrath was poured out.

But as the dust settles, a massive question remains: Who exactly is Babylon?

For centuries, theologians have pointed to ancient Iraq, or the Roman Catholic Church, or a future global economic system. But when we open our Bibles, use our Strong’s Concordances, and look at the 33 specific characteristic traits laid out in Scripture, the evidence points to a modern, global, culturally dominant “Mega City.”

Today, we are building the case. We are looking at the biblical blueprint, the historical clues, and the prophetic warnings. And what we find is both terrifying and urgent.

THE BIBLICAL BLUEPRINT: JEREMIAH 50 & ISAIAH 47

To understand Revelation 17, we must go back to the Old Testament. The Prophet Jeremiah dedicated two massive chapters—50 and 51—to the fall of future Babylon.

Jeremiah 50:23 calls Babylon “the hammer of the whole earth.” For decades, one nation has acted as the global hammer, projecting military, economic, and cultural power to every corner of the globe. But Jeremiah 50:23 also asks: “How is the hammer of the whole earth cut asunder and broken!”

Isaiah 47 calls her the “virgin daughter of Babylon.” Historically, ancient Babylon was conquered by the Persians without a fight. She was never destroyed by fire. She was never left utterly desolate. Yet Jeremiah 51:26 commands that “they shall not take from thee a stone for a corner… but thou shalt be desolate for ever.”

The ancient city of Babylon in Iraq does not fit this prophetic profile. The prophecies demand a future, fiery, total destruction of a global superpower.

THE “MEGA CITY” AND THE 33 CHARACTERISTICS

In Revelation 17:18, John is given a direct decoding key: “The woman whom you saw is that great city which reigns over the kings of the earth.” The Greek word for “great” here is Mega. She is the Mega City.

When we cross-reference the descriptions in Revelation 17 and 18 with the Old Testament, we find a list of at least 33 specific characteristic traits. Let’s look at a few:

• Wasteful Extravagance & Overconsumption: Revelation 18 details a massive list of traded goods—gold, silver, precious stones, fine linen, purple, silk, ivory, and spices. The lifestyles of the rich and famous are built on this abundance.
• Cultural Insanity & Exporting Idolatry: She is noted for her “enticing elegant luxury lifestyle.” She doesn’t just consume; she exports her cultural insanity, her movies, her music, and her moral decay to the rest of the world.
• Bright, Gaudy Lights: Revelation 18:23 says the “light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee.” She is noted for her bright, gaudy colored lights in her nightlife. Think of the neon glow of Times Square or the Las Vegas strip.
• Drugs and Occultism: Revelation 18:23 mentions that “by thy sorceries were all nations deceived.” The Greek word for sorceries is pharmakeia—the root word for pharmacy and drugs. She is a hub of drug use and occult alliances.

When you look at this list, the profile of a modern, global superpower becomes undeniable.

THE ISHTAR CONNECTION: THE GODDESS OF “PERSONAL FREEDOM”

Here is where the historical and archaeological evidence gets chilling. In ancient Babylon, the chief female deity was Ishtar. She was known as the goddess of “personal freedom.”

Ishtar promoted a twisted version of salvation—salvation by sex, wanton sexuality, and the rejection of traditional morality. As the Roman Empire absorbed Babylonian culture, they adopted Ishtar and renamed her Libertas—Liberty. The goddess of personal freedom.

Now, look at Revelation 17:4. The woman is arrayed in “purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations.”

When Frédéric-Auguste Bartholdi designed the Statue of Liberty, he originally planned for her to wear a purple robe and hold a golden cup (representing the broken chains of slavery). While the final design changed to a torch, the spiritual DNA of the “goddess of personal freedom” remains. She stands in the harbor of the Mega City, welcoming the world to a nation that has exported the doctrine of “if it feels good, do it” to the ends of the earth.

THE EARTHQUAKE & THE ALLIES TURNING

We cannot read Revelation 17 in a vacuum. We just studied Revelation 16. The great earthquake has struck. The cup of wrath has been poured out on Babylon.

Now, look at Revelation 17:16. The ten horns (the allied nations and global coalitions) “shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire.”

When we dig into the Greek using Strong’s Concordance, the word translated as “hate” is miseo. It means to have a disregard for, or an indifference to a thing. The word for “desolate” is eremos, meaning abandoned to ruin.

This is happening right before our eyes. The global alliances are fracturing. The “ten horns” are developing an emergency crisis. They are voting power to the Beast, and in the process, they are turning their backs on the Mega City. They are abandoning her to ruin. The geopolitical shift is accelerating.

GOD DOES NOT HATE AMERICA

I want to speak directly to your heart for a moment. When we say America is Babylon, people get offended. They think we are saying God hates this country.

God does not hate America. He loves her.

But because He loves her, He will not let 30 million innocent babies cry out from the ground without justice. He will not let the export of moral decay go unpunished. He is sending judgment to pull the safety rug out from under a nation that has departed from Him. He is shaking the economy, the politics, and the culture to wake people up.

When the water, the electricity, the food, and the security are gone, people’s eyes will finally turn heavenward. But it will be too late for those who did not heed the warning.

⚡ 5-MINUTE ACTIVATION: COMING OUT OF BABYLON

Revelation 18:4 says, “Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.” Take 5 minutes to spiritually separate yourself from the Babylonian system.

⏱️ Total time: 5 minutes. Result: Separated. Protected. Watchful.

The case is built. The Mega City is exposed. But here is the shocking part: The beast she rides is about to turn on her. In Part 2 of this study, we will dive into Revelation 17:7-14 to uncover the identity of the Beast, the ten horns, and the emergency crisis that will seal Babylon’s fate.
