🎧 AUDIO NARRATION BY DAVID
Listen to David connect Jonathan Cahn’s Flight 618 attack to King Saul’s irrational javelin assault on David.
Church family, a few days ago, we shared the incredible story of Jonathan Cahn’s attack on Flight 618. The national news covered it, but they missed the real story—the spiritual warfare happening 30,000 feet in the air. We explained what was really going on in the spirit realm.
But now, I want to take you deeper. I want to show you a biblical example of the exact same thing—a spiritual attack that made absolutely no sense in the natural.
THE FLIGHT 618 ATTACK: A REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE
Jonathan Cahn was on American Airlines Flight 618, sharing the gospel with the man sitting next to him. Everything was friendly. They talked about life, family, work. Jonathan shared how Jesus changed his life, the prophecies, the reality of God’s power.
And then, in an instant, everything changed. The man’s demeanor shifted from light to absolute darkness. He began cursing Jesus, blaspheming God, and became violently aggressive. He tried to grab and destroy Jonathan’s laptop. The plane made an emergency landing. The man was duct-taped to his seat.
The media called it a “mental episode.” But we know better. We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers (Ephesians 6:12).
SAUL’S JAVELIN: THE BIBLICAL PATTERN OF IRRATIONAL ATTACKS
Let’s go back to King Saul and David. David was Saul’s servant. He was loyal. He fought Saul’s battles and killed tens of thousands of Philistines. The women of Israel sang, “Saul has killed his thousands, but David his tens of thousands!” And Saul heard it. He realized the prophecy Samuel gave him was coming true—the kingdom was being ripped away and given to a better man.
Now here’s the key: David didn’t deserve any of this persecution. He was blessing Saul. He was serving him faithfully. He was even playing music for Saul when the demons would attack him. David was doing everything right.
And then, 1 Samuel 18:10-11 tells us what happened next. Saul is sitting there, and David is playing the harp, ministering to him, trying to bring peace. And for no reason whatsoever, Saul grabs his javelin and hurls it at David, trying to pin him to the wall. David dodges it.
Think about this: David is blessing him, serving him, playing music to soothe his tormented soul, and Saul tries to kill him. That makes no natural sense. But in the spiritual realm, it makes perfect sense. “An evil spirit from the Lord had come upon Saul” (1 Samuel 16:14). The demonic was driving irrational violence against the innocent.
THE CONNECTION: FROM ANCIENT JAVELINS TO MODERN MADNESS
Church family, this is exactly what we saw on Flight 618. Jonathan was sharing the gospel, being friendly, and suddenly the man turned demonic and attacked him. It made no natural sense. But in the spiritual realm, it made perfect sense.
Satan’s headquarters may be in Pergamus (Revelation 2:13), but when he barks out orders to fallen angels and demons, this is what happens: irrational attacks on the innocent, unprovoked violence against those who are doing good.
MODERN MADNESS: WHEN THE WORLD CALLS IT “MENTAL ILLNESS”
We see it today in the Lindsay Clancy case making national news. She killed her three babies. The world wants to call it mental illness. But the Bible makes it clear: murder is murder. It’s something going on inside that is spiritual.
When someone destroys innocent life, that’s not just a chemical imbalance. That’s a spiritual battle. That’s the same demonic force that drove Saul to throw javelins at his most loyal servant. That’s the same spirit that attacked Jonathan on that plane.
The world wants to medicalize evil. But Scripture calls it what it is: “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 6:12).
THE VICTORY: DODGE THE JAVELIN, KEEP SERVING
But here’s the victory: David dodged the javelin. David survived. And eventually, David became king. The attack didn’t stop God’s purpose.
Jonathan’s computer was damaged, but the book is still going forth. The babies’ lives were taken, but God’s justice will prevail. The enemy’s attacks are real, but they cannot stop God’s purpose.
Church family, when you face attacks that make no sense, remember: you’re not fighting flesh and blood. You’re fighting principalities and powers. But greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4).
Don’t let the irrational attacks stop you. Dodge the javelin. Keep serving. Keep blessing. Keep playing your harp. God’s purpose will prevail.
THE ABCs OF SALVATION
If you do not know the One who is greater than he who is in the world, receive Him today. He is your victory over every spiritual attack.
- A — ADMIT You’re a Sinner (Romans 3:23)
- B — BELIEVE Jesus Died and Rose (Romans 5:8)
- C — CONFESS Him as Lord (Romans 10:9)
Pray this from your heart: “Lord Jesus, I admit I’m a sinner. I believe You died for me and rose again. I confess You as my Lord and Savior. Write my name in the Lamb’s Book of Life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
5-MINUTE ACTIVATION: STANDING FIRM AGAINST IRRATIONAL ATTACKS
Take 5 minutes today to armor up against spiritual attacks that make no natural sense.
Step 1: READ 1 Samuel 18:10-11 & Ephesians 6:12 (60 sec)
Read these verses aloud. Declare that you understand the nature of spiritual warfare.
Step 2: PRAY (90 sec)
“Lord, when attacks come that make no sense, help me recognize them for what they are—spiritual warfare. Give me David’s wisdom to dodge the javelin and keep serving. Greater is He who is in me than he who is in the world. Maranatha. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
Step 3: ACT (60 sec)
Identify one area where you’re facing irrational opposition. Write down: “I am not fighting flesh and blood. I am fighting spiritual forces.” Then pray for that person/situation.
⏱️ Total time: 5 minutes. Result: Discerning. Protected. Victorious.
Church family, when the irrational attacks come, remember David. Remember Jonathan. Remember: you’re not fighting flesh and blood. Dodge the javelin. Keep serving. Keep blessing. God’s purpose will prevail.
