Turning Point USA will honor its late founder, Charlie Kirk, with a memorial at Utah Valley University on Sept. 10, the first anniversary of his assassination.

The conservative youth organization said the “Freedom Built to Last” gathering will remember Kirk as a Christian husband and father, a free-speech advocate, and a leader who helped build a movement among young Americans.

“The gathering will honor Charlie as a faith-filled husband, father, and defender of free speech,” Turning Point said in Friday’s release, calling the event “a deliberate act of remembrance, and a call for students and supporters to continue his life’s work.”

The memorial will be held at UVU’s UCCU Center, about a five-minute walk from the amphitheater where Kirk was fatally shot while speaking to thousands of students during the opening stop of his “All-American Comeback Tour.”

Speakers will include conservative talk-show host and Blaze Media founder Glenn Beck; Christian author Frank Turek, a friend and mentor to Kirk; and Turning Point Chief Field Officer Andrew Sypher.

Turek was standing just feet from Kirk when he was shot, as was Caleb Chilcutt, then-chair of TPUSA’s UVU chapter. Chilcutt, now a Turning Point representative in Utah, also is scheduled to speak.

“The martyrdom of Charlie Kirk is the most significant American event in the 21st century,” Beck told the Deseret News. “It’s an honor to stand and mark it.”

UVU said campus operations will be closed Sept. 10 to give the community “time and space for reflection, service, and connection.” The UCCU Center will remain open for Turning Point’s private event.

The university announced less than two weeks after Kirk’s assassination that it was forming a committee to develop a permanent campus memorial. Utah leaders also have called for Kirk to be permanently commemorated at the school.
