🏚️ The Unoccupied House: 3 Real Demonic Encounters & The Anatomy of Man

Church family, this is David. I need to share something with you that will shake you to your core. We are not wrestling against flesh and blood. We are wrestling against principalities, powers, and the rulers of darkness.

Today, we are looking at three real, documented encounters with the spiritual realm: a nurse’s terrifying deathbed testimony, Tyler Wood’s encounter with a possessed sheriff’s deputy, and Jonathan Cahn’s demonic attack on Flight 618. But to truly understand what happened in those moments, we have to understand how God created us.

THE ANATOMY OF MAN: SPIRIT, SOUL, AND BODY

The Bible tells us in 1 Thessalonians 5:23 that we are made up of spirit, soul, and body. When a person dies, the spirit and soul depart the physical body. But if that spirit is not covered by the blood of Jesus, it is entirely vulnerable to the spiritual realm.

Jesus warned us about this exact scenario in Matthew 12:43-45 (KJV). He said: “When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished. Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first.”

THE SOVEREIGN JUDGMENT OF GOD (THE NURSE’S TESTIMONY)

First, we must make a crucial theological distinction: Demons do not have the authority to “collect” souls at death. It is God’s angels who execute His sovereign judgment (Hebrews 9:27). However, when a soul is unoccupied by the Holy Spirit, the terror of facing a holy God without the covering of Christ is absolute, and the powers of darkness will manifest to accuse and intimidate.

A nurse caring for a dying, unbelieving man on hospice witnessed this firsthand. The man was incoherent, experiencing agonal breathing. Suddenly, his body stiffened like a board. His eyes popped open, and he screamed at full volume, “I’M NOT GOING! NO! NO! NO!” The lights in the old nursing home flickered. The nurse tried to pray, but a strong impression said, “Stop. There’s nothing you can do. This can’t be stopped.” From screaming to silence. Last breath. Boom. Done. God’s angels executed judgment, but the reality of hell was laid bare.

THE MANIFESTATION OF THE ENEMY (TYLER WOOD & JONATHAN CAHN)

While God’s angels execute judgment at death, the enemy actively manifests when spiritual truths are spoken to an unoccupied vessel. We see this terrifying legal right play out in two distinct encounters:

1. Tyler Wood’s Encounter in Lexington: While Tyler was explaining the nature of the soul to a sheriff’s deputy, the man’s demeanor violently shifted. He began saying, “I found you.” Later, multiple voices came out of his mouth threatening Tyler’s wife. Tyler realized a demon had found a void in that man’s soul—a void created by generational darkness and military trauma—and possessed him.

2. Jonathan Cahn’s Flight 618 Attack: Jonathan was sharing the gospel with a friendly stranger at 38,000 feet. In a split second, the man shifted to absolute darkness, cursing Jesus and trying to destroy Jonathan’s laptop. The enemy manifested through a vessel, furious that the light of the gospel was being shared in his territory.

When a soul rejects Christ, they leave themselves entirely exposed to the enemy’s claims. The house is left unoccupied.

HELL IS REAL: THE TERRIBLE TRUTH

Church family, I’m not telling you this to fear-monger. I’m telling you this because HELL IS REAL. Jesus described it in Matthew 25:46 as “eternal punishment.” Revelation 20:15 says, “If anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.”

Those people had no IV access to a second chance. No do-overs. They faced eternity in a single moment.

THE ONLY WAY: JESUS CHRIST

But here’s the glorious truth: YOU DON’T HAVE TO GO THERE! Jesus Christ is the ONLY way. He said in John 14:6, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.”

The world is dabbling in magic, affirmations, and Solomon’s secrets, trying to get abundance. But Christ said, “Come to Me, and I’ll give you rest. Seek first the kingdom, and all these things will be added to you.”
