🎧 AUDIO NARRATION BY DAVID
Listen to David break down how to find peace when you are worried about death, finances, health, and relationships.
If I am honest with you, I know what it feels like to be worried. Maybe you are worried about your health. Maybe you are staring at a stack of bills, worried about your finances. Maybe you are losing sleep over a broken relationship, or maybe, just like me, the thought of physical death keeps you up at night. We live in a world that is designed to make us anxious. But today, I want to speak directly to your heart. Whether you are a lifelong Christian or you are just searching for hope, I want you to know this: You do not have to carry this weight. God is in control, and He is readily available to the humble heart.
THE FEAR OF DEATH & THE ANESTHESIA OF ETERNITY
Let’s talk about the biggest worry of all: death. I love my life. I love my family, my morning coffee, and the sunrise. The thought of my heart stopping scares me. But I’ve been asking myself, am I thinking about this wrong?
Jesus only lived 33 years. He wasn’t early. He finished His work. And He wasn’t terrified of death itself; He was dreading the weight of our sin on the cross. Because He knew exactly where He was going. The Apostle Paul got the memo. He said, “To live is Christ, and to die is gain.” Gain! Not loss. He said to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
Think about when you go under general anesthesia for a surgery. You close your eyes in the operating room, and a second later, you open your eyes in the recovery room. As far as your consciousness is concerned, no time passed at all. I believe death for the believer will feel exactly like that. You close your eyes here, and you open them there. In paradise.
THE CATERPILLAR’S COCOON (THE TWINKLING OF AN EYE)
Or think about a caterpillar. It crawls in the dirt. Then it spins a cocoon—like a little mini coffin—and disappears. But what comes out? A butterfly. The creature that once crawled in the dirt now flies above it.
The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 15, “In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, we shall be changed.” The perishable puts on the imperishable. The earthly life gives way to the heavenly life. Death doesn’t get the final word. Jesus does.
DAILY WORRIES: FINANCES, HEALTH, AND RELATIONSHIPS
But what about your daily worries? Your finances, your health, your family? Jesus asked, “Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow; it empties today of its strength.
God is not sitting in heaven, wringing His hands, hoping your bills get paid or your health improves. He is the Sovereign Lord of the Universe. He holds the stars in their orbits, and He holds your life in His hands. He promises that He will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory. He is in control.
THE KEY: A HUMBLE HEART
But here is the key. God resists the proud, but He gives grace to the humble. If you want His peace, you have to humble your heart. You have to stop trying to control the uncontrollable and surrender it to Him. When you humble yourself under His mighty hand, He lifts you up. He is readily available to the broken and the contrite in spirit.
THE ABCs OF SALVATION
If you are a Christian, cast your cares on Him today. But if you are not a Christian, if you have never trusted Jesus, you do not have the foundation to stand on when the storms of life hit. You do not have the hope of the anesthesia of eternity. Do not wait. Secure your eternity today.
- A — ADMIT You’re a Sinner (Romans 3:23)
- B — BELIEVE Jesus Died and Rose (Romans 5:8)
- C — CONFESS Him as Lord (Romans 10:9)
Pray this from your heart: “Lord Jesus, I admit I’m a sinner. I believe You died for me and rose again. I confess You as my Lord and Savior. Write my name in the Lamb’s Book of Life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
