Friends and Bible Study Group of of Divine Timing, when I read Revelation chapter 10, the first thing that hits me is this: Who is this mighty angel?

Look at the description in verse 1: He is clothed with a cloud, a rainbow is upon His head, His face is as it were the sun, and His feet as pillars of fire.

Excuse me, but that doesn’t sound like an ordinary angel if you ask me!

THE STANCE AND THE ROAR: GLOBAL JUDGMENT

Look at verses 2 and 3. He sets His right foot upon the sea, and His left foot on the earth. This is a massive prophetic statement. It means judgment is coming to the whole world. No one is exempt. The sea and the earth represent the totality of human civilization.

And when He cries out, what does it sound like? He roars like a lion.

Please note that for my analysis. Who is the Lion in the Bible? Jesus is called the Lion of the Tribe of Judah. This roaring is the voice of the King asserting His absolute authority over the earth before the final judgments fall.

THE COURTROOM OATH: TIME IS UP

Then we get to a very mysterious statement: the seven thunders utter their voices. John is about to write it down, but a voice from heaven says, “Seal up those things which the seven thunders uttered, and write them not.” Some things God keeps in His own counsel.

But then, the Angel which stands on the sea and on the earth lifts up His hand to heaven. And He swears by Him that liveth for ever and ever.

It’s almost like a courtroom scene. When somebody holds up their hand to swear to the judge and jury that they are telling the truth, with one hand on the Bible. This is a divine, legal oath.

And look at what He swears: “That there should be time no longer.”

In other words, time is up. The delay is over. Sin is going to be judged. The Messiah is coming without delay. The clock of human history is about to strike midnight.

WHO IS THIS MIGHTY ANGEL?

Now, let me share something that has been on my heart. I am highly suspicious about who this Angel actually is.

Think about it. Revelation 1:15-16 describes Jesus with feet like fine brass, as if refined in a furnace, and His countenance like the sun shining in its strength. Sound familiar?

Yes, Jesus is not an angel, but He does have certain titles. In the Old Testament, “The Angel of the Lord” went before the children of Israel. Many scholars recognize this as a Christophany—a pre-incarnate appearance of Jesus Christ Himself.

And consider this: Only God can swear by Himself. Hebrews 6:13 says, “For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself.”

A created angel cannot swear by “Him that liveth forever and ever” in this authoritative, courtroom manner. This is the divine Judge declaring that time is up.

GOD DOES NOT SHARE HIS GLORY

Then look at Revelation 18:1. There’s another mighty, powerful angel coming down from heaven having great power, and the earth is lightened with His glory.

Spoiler alert! God does not share His glory with anybody. (Isaiah 42:8).

It’s not a created angel, folks. But the Bible is full of secrets. Sometimes dark secrets. And as we always say here at Divine Timing, “He revealeth His secrets to His servants the prophets.” (Amos 3:7).

THE SWEET AND BITTER SCROLL

Then the Angel hands John a little book and tells him to eat it. John says it was in his mouth “sweet as honey,” but as soon as he ate it, his belly was bitter.

Now, you might remember that the prophet Ezekiel also ate a scroll in the Old Testament (Ezekiel 3:1-3). It tasted like honey in his mouth, too.

What does this mean? On a prophetic level, it certainly sounds like the life of sin. Sin is sweet in the beginning. It tastes good. It feels good. But in the end, it turns sour and bitter in your stomach. The wages of sin is death, and the aftertaste is eternal regret.

But for the prophet, it means that the Word of God is sweet to receive, but the message of judgment is heavy and bitter to carry. The prophecy came true the moment John ate it. The burden of the end times was now upon him.

THOU MUST PROPHESY AGAIN

And this brings us to verse 11, a fascinating verse: “Thou must prophesy again before many peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings.”

Have we not been talking about John’s book for many centuries? Absolutely incredible. The Book of Revelation has been read, studied, and debated by every generation. And now, as we stand on the edge of the Tribulation, its message is more relevant, more urgent, and more alive than ever before.
