In December 1944, during the Battle of the Bulge, General George S. Patton’s Third Army was bogged down by terrible weather. The skies were frozen, the ground was muddy, and his air support couldn’t fly. The Germans were advancing, and his troops were stuck.
Patton called in his Catholic Chaplain, Father James O’Neill, and ordered him to write a prayer for good weather. The Chaplain hesitated, saying it felt presumptuous to tell God what to do.
Patton grabbed him and said, “Chaplain, are you a soldier or a mouse? I don’t care what you think about it, you will write this prayer and you will have the men recite it!”
The Chaplain wrote the prayer. The troops prayed it. And miraculously, the skies cleared. The weather broke. Patton’s air support flew. The Allies won.
This is spiritual warfare in action. This is a warrior who understood that spiritual authority dictates physical reality.
