Revelation 5: The Mysterious Book That Nobody Could Open OR LOOK AT
“And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals… And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon.”
— Revelation 5:1,3 (KJV)

Listen to this prophetic teaching. Perfect for headphones and deep study.
🎧 Worthy is the Lamb who prevailed to open the seven seals.
Friends and Bible study group, let me tell you something that stopped me cold while studying the Revelation 5 seven seals. I used to think it was just a scroll. But John clearly saw a Book—written within and on the backside, held firmly in the right hand of the One seated on the throne.
And here’s the staggering part: Not only was no one allowed to read it. Not only was no one allowed to open it. No one was allowed to even LOOK at it. The holiness, the weight, the prophetic finality of that sealed decree demanded worthiness that didn’t exist anywhere in creation.
John wept. Not quietly. He wept much. Because in that moment, heaven, earth, and the grave were silent. No angel. No elder. No archangel. No human. Not even the strong angel who cried out with a loud voice was worthy.
Until one of the elders spoke: “Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, hath prevailed.”
THE LAMB PREVAILS: 7 HORNS, 7 EYES, 7 SPIRITS
John looks up, expecting a conquering Lion. Instead, he sees a Lamb as it had been slain (Rev 5:6). Standing in the very center of the throne, surrounded by the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders.
Notice the details. This Lamb has seven horns and seven eyes. In biblical symbolism, horns represent power and authority. Seven is the number of divine completion. Seven horns means Christ’s rule extends over every single continent on the earth. He is the true King. He holds all authority.
Seven eyes? Omniscience. Nothing escapes His sight. He sees every prayer, every tear, every secret rebellion, every hidden act of worship. And those seven eyes are explicitly called “the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.” While angels are messengers given delegated power, the seven Spirits represent the fullness of the Holy Spirit Himself—actively moving, executing divine will, penetrating every corner of creation.
Then comes the holy moment: “He came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne.” (v.7) The moment His wounded hands grasp the sealed decree, heaven erupts.
THE SONG OF THE REDEEMED: KINGS & PRIESTS WHO REIGN ON EARTH
The four beasts and twenty-four elders fall down. They hold harps and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints (v.8). Who are these saints? They are the redeemed of all ages. The Old Testament believers who were resurrected on Resurrection Sunday, leaving Paradise (Abraham’s bosom) to take their place in the third heaven. The New Testament believers, redeemed by His blood out of every kindred, tongue, people, and nation.
They sing a new song. And verse 10 drops a truth that shatters religious tradition: “And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.”
Many believe we’ll just sit in heaven forever on clouds. Scripture says otherwise. We are being prepared to reign on the earth. We will take our orders from the Lord. He will dictate from Jerusalem, and later from the New Jerusalem. We will execute His will, administer His justice, and steward His restored creation. This is exactly what the Judgment Seat of Christ is preparing us for—securing our positions, refining our character, and assigning our responsibilities before He returns.
THE MYSTERY OF VERSE 13: EVERY CREATURE WORSHIPING
Then John hears something that stretches beyond our current timeline: “And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.” (v.13)
How mysterious is this? Because at this moment, it’s not the case. The earth is still groaning. Creation still waits for the manifestation of the sons of God (Rom 8:19). Rebellion still echoes. But John is given a prophetic glimpse of ultimate fulfillment. The day will come when every knee bows. Every tongue confesses. Every creature in every realm acknowledges the absolute sovereignty of the Father and the Lamb.
The four beasts cry “Amen.” The elders fall down and worship Him that liveth for ever and ever (v.14). The sealed Book is open. The seals are loosed. The plan of redemption moves into its final, unstoppable phase.
