John’s Arrival in Heaven Leaves Him Absolutely Stunned
“After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter.”
— Revelation 4:1 (KJV)

Friends and Bible study group (On Facebook, X, Truth Social, and here at Divine Timing, let me tell you something that stopped me in my tracks.
John, the last living apostle, the one who leaned on Jesus’ breast, the one who wrote “God is love” gets called up to heaven. (A picture of the Church departing in the catching away of 1thessalonians 4:17), And the first thing he sees leaves him absolutely stunned.
Not angels. Not clouds. Not harps.
A throne. Seated. Surrounded.
This isn’t just a vision. This is a transition. The church age closes. Heaven’s government activates. And John—representing us—is called up to witness it.
Let’s walk through Revelation 4 together.
SECTION 1: “COME UP HITHER” — THE RAPTURE PICTURE
Revelation 4:1 isn’t random. It’s structural.
Chapters 2-3: Jesus evaluates the seven churches—the complete church age. Chapter 4: John is called “up hither” by a trumpet voice. Chapter 5 onward: Tribulation judgments unfold on earth.
Do you see the pattern?
The Structural Shift:
- 📖 Rev 1-3: Church age evaluation (earth)
- 📖 Rev 4:1: “Come up hither” (rapture type)
- 📖 Rev 4-19: Tribulation judgments (earth)
- 📖 Rev 20-22: Kingdom fulfillment (eternity)
This isn’t proof-texting. This is pattern recognition. The text itself signals the transition.
And John’s response? Stunned awe. Not fear. Not confusion. Reverent wonder at what he’s about to witness.
SECTION 2: THE THRONE ROOM — HEAVEN’S GOVERNMENT ACTIVATED
“And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne.” (Rev 4:2)
This isn’t a casual scene. This is a governmental assembly. A courtroom. A command center.
Notice what’s present:
✅ A throne set (authority established)
✅ One seated (God the Father, glory-focused)
✅ 24 elders seated (redeemed assembly in authority)
✅ Four living creatures ready (executive agents of divine will)
✅ Seven lamps burning (fullness of the Holy Spirit)
✅ Sea of glass (God’s omnipresent view of earth)
This is heaven’s executive branch. And it’s activated after the church is called up.
SECTION 3: THE 24 ELDERS — LITERAL REDEEMED INDIVIDUALS
“And round about the throne were four and twenty seats: and upon the seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting, clothed in white raiment; and they had on their heads crowns of gold.” (Rev 4:4)
These aren’t symbolic. These aren’t angels. These are literal, redeemed individuals.
Why 24?
- 📜 12 tribes of Israel (Old Testament saints)
- ✝️ 12 apostles of the Lamb (New Testament church)
- 👑 Seated + crowned = authority + victory
- 🤍 White robes = righteousness imputed, not earned
Who are they specifically? Enoch? Moses? Peter? Paul? We don’t know yet. But we will. And that day will be glorious.
What we do know: They cast their crowns before the throne (Rev 4:10). All authority, all reward, all victory flows from Christ, not to self.
SECTION 4: THE FOUR LIVING CREATURES — EXECUTIVE AGENTS OF DIVINE WILL
“And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were four beasts full of eyes before and behind. And the first beast was like a lion, and the second beast like a calf, and the third beast had a face as a man, and the fourth beast was like a flying eagle.” (Rev 4:6-7)
These aren’t random creatures. They’re connected to Ezekiel 1 and Isaiah 6—the cherubim and seraphim who surround God’s throne.
What They Represent:
- 🦁 Lion = Majesty, kingship, strength
- 🐂 Calf/Ox = Service, sacrifice, endurance
- 👤 Man = Intelligence, compassion, representation
- 🦅 Eagle = Swiftness, sovereignty, perspective
“Full of eyes” = omniscient awareness. They see everything. They execute God’s will instantly. They lead worship continually: “Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty” (Rev 4:8).
During the tribulation, these creatures will be highly active—handing judgment bowls to angels (Rev 15:7), declaring God’s holiness amid chaos, executing divine will on earth.
SECTION 5: THE SEA OF GLASS — GOD’S OMNIPRESENT VIEW
“And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal…” (Rev 4:6)
This isn’t just decoration. This is symbolism.
In the temple, the bronze laver (Exodus 30:18) was for purification. The sea of glass in heaven represents:
✅ Transparency — Nothing hidden from God’s view
✅ Holiness boundary — Separation between Creator and creation
✅ Omnipresence — God sees all, knows all, governs all
✅ Purity — No sin, no shadow, no compromise in His presence
Later, in Revelation 15:2, we see martyred tribulation saints standing “on the sea of glass, having the harps of God.” Same throne room. Same sea. Different company.
This isn’t the New Jerusalem yet (that comes after the millennium, Rev 21-22). This is heaven’s throne room during the tribulation—where redeemed saints worship, even amid earth’s chaos.
SECTION 6: YOUR 5-MINUTE ACTIVATION — WATCH. WAIT. WORSHIP.
Here’s your activation exercise. Based on Revelation 4:11 and 1 Thessalonians 5:6. Designed to keep you anchored in awe, not anxiety.
⚡ 5-MINUTE ACTIVATION: WATCH. WAIT. WORSHIP.
“Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.” — Revelation 4:11 (KJV)
Step 1: CHOOSE Your Anchor Verse (30 seconds)
Pick ONE verse to ground your awe:
- 📖 Revelation 4:11 — “Thou art worthy, O Lord”
- 📖 1 Thessalonians 5:6 — “Let us watch and be sober”
- 📖 Psalm 46:10 — “Be still, and know that I am God”
- ✨ Or your own: __________
Write it down. Keep it visible.
Step 2: SPEAK It Aloud 3x (30 seconds)
Read it OUT LOUD. Declare worship over worry.
Why? Speaking activates faith + rewires your mind for reverence.
Step 3: PONDER Two Questions (60 seconds)
- “Am I watching the signs with awe, or anxiety?”
- “Is my hope in Christ’s return, or in earthly outcomes?”
Be honest. Wisdom meets you in truth.
Step 4: PRAY It Back (60 seconds)
“Lord Jesus, I don’t need to solve every mystery. I need to stay ready. Keep me watchful, not fearful. Anchor my hope in Your return, not in earthly timelines. I worship You. Maranatha. Amen.”
Step 5: TAKE ONE ACTION (60 seconds)
- ✅ Share this article with one believer who needs this watchman perspective
- ✅ Spend 15 minutes in prayer, asking Jesus to deepen your awe
- ✅ Review Revelation 4 and 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11 this week
- ✅ Memorize Revelation 4:11
Physical action reinforces spiritual readiness.
⏱️ TOTAL TIME: 5 MINUTES
Do this daily. Watch the signs. Pray without ceasing. Worship in awe. The King is coming.
🕊️ A UNIQUE INVITATION: From Anxiety to Awe
This isn’t about solving prophetic puzzles. This is about being born again.
“Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.”
— Luke 21:36 (KJV)
The wisest decision you’ll ever make… is the simplest.
Here’s the path from anxiety to awe. RIGHT NOW:
✅ A — ACKNOWLEDGE Your Need for the Watchman’s Hope
Timelines won’t save you. Speculation won’t save you. Fear won’t save you. Acknowledge your need for Christ. He alone keeps His own safe from the hour of trial.
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23)
✅ B — BELIEVE Jesus Is Your Keeper
He didn’t just promise to return. He promised to keep you. His blood covers your failures. His Spirit empowers your endurance. Believe it. Receive it. Walk secure.
“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.” (John 10:27-28)
✅ C — COMMIT to Watching and Worshiping
Commit to holding fast to Christ, not political hope. To watching the signs with awe, not anxiety. To worshiping until He comes.
“Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power.” (Revelation 4:11)
👉 Pray this from your heart. Right where you are:
“Lord Jesus, I acknowledge my need for You. I believe You are my Keeper. I commit to watching, waiting, and worshiping until You return. Seal me with Your Spirit. Make me Yours. Today and forever. Amen.”
💙 If you prayed that. Congratulations.
You didn’t achieve it. You received it.
You’re SEALED. (Ephesians 1:13)

👁️ Watch the signs with awe.
⏳ Wait on the Lord with hope.
🙌 Worship in spirit and truth.
Thou art worthy, O Lord.
“Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.”

Maranatha.
